how to use 67
Getting started takes about 30 seconds:
- Open 67 and tap let's go on the welcome screen.
- On the setup screen, tap add or edit apps and select the apps you want to block (e.g. Instagram, TikTok, YouTube).
- Set your daily time limit using the scroll picker — for example, 1 hour.
- Tap start monitoring. That's it.
- Once you've used those apps for your set limit, they'll be blocked for the rest of the day.
how blocking works
67 uses Apple's built-in Screen Time / Family Controls framework to enforce limits. This means:
- When your daily limit is reached, the selected apps show a "Restricted" screen — the same one you'd see with regular Screen Time.
- The block is enforced at the iOS level, so it's not easy to bypass.
- 67 itself stays accessible so you can check your countdown timer.
- Limits reset daily at midnight.
how the 67 minute countdown works
When your daily limit is reached and your apps are blocked, you'll see two options on the homepage:
- start 67 minute countdown — starts a 67-minute timer. When the timer finishes, you can choose a break (1–15 minutes). After the break, apps re-block automatically.
- emergency break — skips the wait. You get one emergency break per day, and it resets at midnight.
The 67-minute wait is intentional — it's long enough that you'll usually just move on with your day instead of waiting around.
how emergency breaks work
You get 1 emergency break per day. It's there for genuine emergencies (e.g. you need to check something important on a blocked app right now). Using it skips the 67-minute countdown and gives you temporary access.
Emergency breaks reset every day at midnight so you always have one available.
frequently asked questions
Why 67 minutes specifically?
67 minutes is intentionally awkward — long enough that it's genuinely inconvenient to wait, but not so extreme that it feels punishing. It discourages impulse breaks while still giving you a path back.
Can I change the 67 minute wait time?
Not currently. The fixed 67-minute wait is a core part of how the app works — making it configurable would make it too easy to set it to 1 minute and defeat the purpose.
What if I need to use a blocked app urgently?
Use your emergency break. You get one per day. If you've already used it, you can also go into your iPhone's Screen Time settings directly — 67 can't prevent that entirely, but it does make it harder and more deliberate.
Does 67 work in the background?
Yes. The blocking is handled by iOS at the system level, so 67 doesn't need to be open for it to work. Your apps will stay blocked even if you close 67.
Does 67 block ALL apps or just the ones I pick?
Just the ones you pick. Only your selected apps count toward your daily timer and get blocked. Everything else on your phone works normally.
Can I turn off 67?
Yes — there's a "turn off 67" option in the settings screen inside the app. You can also remove the app's Screen Time permissions through iOS Settings > Screen Time at any time.
Will my Screen Time passcode interfere?
If you have a Screen Time passcode set on your device, 67 uses it to protect its settings so you can't easily change your limits. If you don't have one set, 67 will prompt you to create one during setup.
Does 67 collect any data?
No. 67 does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data. Everything stays on your device. See our
privacy policy for details.
troubleshooting
My apps aren't being blocked
Make sure you've selected apps in Settings inside 67 and that you've granted Screen Time / Family Controls permission. Go to iPhone Settings > Screen Time and check that 67 has the right permissions enabled.
The countdown timer stopped
If you force-quit 67 or restart your phone, re-open the app — the timer should resume. If it doesn't, tap the countdown button again to restart it.
Apps aren't re-blocking after my break
Open 67 after your break ends to trigger the re-block. The app needs to be opened at least briefly to re-apply the Screen Time restrictions.
I accidentally used my emergency break
Emergency breaks reset at midnight each day. You'll have a fresh one tomorrow. If this is a recurring issue, consider it a sign that 67 is working — those impulses are real.
